Safer Products with PLM and Digital Twins

This free webinar will show how effective data analytics combining digital twins with experience can improve product safety.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, USA 20 August 2021—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces an upcoming free educational webinar, “Complex Products Are Safer with PLM and Digital Twins.” The webinar will occur on Thursday, 23 September 2021, at 11:00 a.m. (EDT) and will last for one hour.

The historic validation processes driven by manufacturing robust, durable products are being augmented, even expanded, by the inclusion and expansion of applications that change after the product is in the customer’s possession. Product complexity is proportionally increasing with more embedded electronics and application software. Managing the risks within field upgrades can be improved with PLM, digital twins, and real-time data analytics. This webinar will show how effective data analytics combining digital twins (managed in PLM) with experience measures (IoT in the operations) will improve product safety.

Attendees at this webinar will:

  • Learn how and why CIMdata’s PLM definition covers the complete lifecycle, including operations.
  • Understand more about PLM market growth in electronics design, modeling, simulation, and foundry certification.
  • Understand how an operational digital twin can put data in context, which in turn makes validation manageable.
  • Learn why organizations need to change as products become services and how PLM can ease this evolution.

According to Craig Brown, a CIMdata Executive Consultant and the host for this webinar, “Based on CIMdata’s estimates, the global PLM market grew faster than CIMdata’s forecast for the calendar year 2020, especially in electronics design and manufacturing certification (e.g., requiring more Multiphysics simulations). Companies are benefiting from increased product use insights captured by sensors and their embedded electronics and software. This trend will continue to increase as functions move more and more into software, delivered throughout the lifetime of a product.”

Over his 30-year journey at GM, Mr. Brown was responsible for PLM Portfolio Planning and held assignments in embedded software, systems engineering, CAE Methods, and process improvement. He led engineering and IT teams developing tools to improve product and manufacturing engineering. These teams received patents, engineering awards, and records of invention, including using OnStar® to monitor and report vehicle diagnostics. Before joining GM, he spent 12 years in the Aerospace/Defense industry focused on control systems and tools to help develop systems for guidance, navigation and control, and signal processing systems. He was a member of the team that invented VHDL and led one of the first commercial tool applications. Mr. Brown has a talent for organizing across industry sectors to distill common requirements, which can help streamline tools and standards development.

This webinar will be of interest to anyone who needs to understand how PLM will help improve product safety or who has a strong need to assure product safety relies more on computer-based methods and tools to assess and ensure robust product operations. Solution providers looking for the framework to help product developers manage the complete lifecycle will also find it helpful.

During the webinar, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions about the topics discussed.
