PCB software company Altium set to be acquired by Renesas

Renesas Electronics Corporation is to acquire Altium Limited, a PCB design software company. The acquisition, valued at approximately A$9.1bn, aims to establish an integrated electronics system design and lifecycle management platform.

This move responds to the growing complexity of electronic system design, which involves multiple steps and stakeholders. Renesas and Altium plan to streamline this process by unifying component selection, evaluation, simulation and PCB physical design at a system level.

Combining Altium’s cloud platform capabilities with Renesas’ embedded solutions portfolio, the platform is designed to enable the execution of electronic design steps on the cloud.
