CIMdata’s Aerospace & Defense Practice Leader to Present at the Second Annual Digital Engineering Conference

The event known as “DICE” is organized by the Idaho National Laboratory.

ANN ARBOR, Michigan, USA 10 April 2024—CIMdata, Inc., the leading global PLM strategic management consulting and research firm, announces that its Aerospace & Defense Practice Leader, James Roche, will be featured as a speaker at the upcoming DICE event. The event will take place in Idaho Falls, Idaho, from April 30 through May 1.

CIMdata, in collaboration with the Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group (AD PAG) and multiple PLM solution providers, conducted extensive industry research on the digital thread. This concept is a strategic opportunity in aerospace and defense (A&D), requiring insights into current enablers, barriers, and future investment drivers. Domain expert interviews and an online survey targeting PLM practitioners were used to gather information. The research aimed to understand industry needs, inform commercial strategies, and guide implementations.

James Roche’s presentation, The Promise and Reality of the Digital Thread – Insights from Industry Research, will begin with CIMdata’s perspective on the digital thread: what it is, what drives its value, and how value is effectively realized in practice. This will be followed by a report of key findings from the industry research in several categories: what and why of the digital thread, the current reality of digital thread in industry, planning investment for digital thread expansion in industry, and solution capability and provider alignment. The session will conclude with summary observations on government and industry alignment opportunities.

Established in 2014, the AD PAG comprises major A&D companies. Current members include Airbus, Boeing, GE Aerospace, Gulfstream, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Safran, and Spirit AeroSystems.
