Smithers invests in simulated tire testing machine
Smithers has installed a Simulated On-vehicle Acceleration Testing (SOVAT) machine at its Suzhou laboratory in China. On-vehicle tire testing can be time-consuming, and the new machine will enable faster, more repeatable tread wear, chip and chunk, road hazard endurance and break-in testing, with results available in a fraction of the time taken by tradition equipment.
The machine has a rough drum surface that mimics real roads, and can be fitted with specially designed cleats to simulate road hazards.
